- Most preferred colours: A worldwide survey reveals that blue is the most popular colour in 10 countries across four continents. Most attention grabbing colour is RED. The world’s favourite colour was declared to be a particular shade of greenish-blue(or was it bluish-green?) based on a 30,000-person survey canvassing 100 countries (2017)
- Teetotallers in the world: Non-drinkers make up nearly half the world’s adult population. Gender dimension is striking. Globally 35 per cent of men are non-drinkers while the rate for women is 55%.
- Vegetarians in the world: There are an estimated 1.5 billion vegetarians globally. According to the latest survey available, the percentage of vegetarians in the world is estimated at 22%
- Never married: it’s 23 percent men versus 17 percent women (2014). Marriage seems to be optional in Iceland and unwed mothers are the norm. More than two-thirds of Icelandic babies — 67% — are born to parents who are not married.
- Book reading people: 86 % of people of the world are literate and can read. According to Frequency of reading books– the reading habits of people in 17 countries, 30% of people read books every day (Global GfK survey, 2016). Different countries have different statistics on how many actually do. Indians read the most books, followed by Thailand and China. With its citizens reading 10 hours and 42 minutes per week on average, India tops the list. The top book producing countries are China, USA and UK.
- Extroverts in the world: Researchers estimate extroverts make up 50 – 74 percent of the population. These “social butterflies” thrive under social stimulation. Extroverts outnumber introverts by about three to one
- People wearing western wear : most world countries use western wear often, but 15 counties still use their own traditional wear too; India, Bhutan, Faroe Islands , China , Indonesia , United States , Guatemala (Central America) Vietnam, Mongolia , Sardinia, Norway, Sweden, Russia, Madagascar , Japan
- Number of atheists: According to sociologists Ariela Keysar and Juhem Navarro-Rivera’s review of numerous global studies on atheism, there are 450 to 500 million positive atheists and agnostics worldwide (7% of the world’s population) with China alone accounting for 200 million of that demographic.
- Divorced: Researchers estimate that 41 percent of all first marriages end in divorce. 60 percent of second marriages end in divorce.
- Guns in private individuals hands: Most of the world’s guns are in private hands. … stunning 857 million are owned by private citizens
- People who smoke cigarettes: In 2020, 22.3% of the global population used tobacco, 36.7% of all men and 7.8% of the world’s women
- Beauty in people : The population beauty distribution and categorization is as follows: Bottom 2% Very Unattractive, 15% Unattractive, Slightly Below Average 10%, Average 46%, Slightly Above Average 10%, Attractive 15%, Beautiful 2%. - The most watched movie: Titanic … Gross earnings: $659.33M
- The most read book: After Bible and Quran, The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling among mysteries, Gone with the wind by Margaret Mitchell among romances
- Persons bathing most frequently: countries such as India, the US, Spain, and Mexico everyday, people in European countries bathe less frequently
- People who recall their dreams: one in 10— say they always remember their dreams, while an equally small percentage say they never remember them.
- Flower most grown in the world: Tulip. There are more than 3000 varieties of tulips from 150 different species in the world which makes it one of the most cultivated flowers.
- The most frequent form of death in the world: The world’s biggest killer is ischaemic heart disease (heart problems caused by narrowed heart arteries, also known as coronary heart disease). Responsible for 16% of the world’s total deaths. Since 2000, the largest increase in deaths has been for this disease, rising by more than 2 million to 8.9 million deaths in 2019.
- Obesity in the world: in 2020, more than 2 billion adults (39%of the adult global population) were overweight (BMI > 25). Of these, over 600 million were obese (BMI > 30) USA – 36.2%, Canada – 29.4%, Australia – 29%, UK 27.8%, Germany -22.3%, France -21.6%, China-6.2%, Pakistan – 8.6% and India – 3.9%
- The author who wrote the maximum number of books : Brazilian author Ryoki Inoue holds the Guinness World Record for being the most prolific author, with 1,075 books published under many pseudonyms. The Guinness Book of World Records ranks Mary Faulkner(1903-1973) as the most prolific novelist, having written 904 books. Mary wrote under six pen names.
- Author of most scientific articles : Materials scientist Akihisa Inoue, former president of Tohoku University in Japan and a member of multiple prestigious academies, holds the record for 12 calendar years between 2000 and 2016. Since 1976, his name appears on 2,566 full papers indexed in Scopus
- Number of Scientific publications by country: Year 2020 – China : 744042, USA: 624554, UK: 198500 and India: 191590
- WORLD’S MOST CITED: Francesco d’Errico has been named as one of the world’s Highly Cited Researchers in 2017. He has for the last ten years contributed to the identification of the earliest instances of symbolic behaviour from Africa, Europe, and China. These discoveries have implications for researchers working in a variety of disciplines. He is a professor of Archaeology and heads the Center for Early Sapiens’s Behaviour, University of Bergen, Norway
- Person who read maximum number of books: Chandra Mohan Jain (better known as Acharya Rajneesh or simply OSHO), a Indian spiritual leader active in 1970’s and 80’s, claimed to have read over 150,000 books. By modest estimates, if we assume he read continuously for 48 years (he lived for 58), it comes out to be 3,000 books a year!
- World’s toughest Examinations: Gaokao (The National Higher Education Entrance Examination, China) , UPSE ( Union Public Service Examination, India for entering public services such as IAS, IFS) Joint Entrance Examination, India (JEE ) for admission into premier engineering institutes are the top three in that order. Mensa IQ Test at 6th, GATE at 9th position!
- World’s working hours: Mexico- 2148 hrs/year, Costa Rica – 2121 hrs/yr, South Korea 1993 hrs/ year. India does not appear in this list of 38 countries!
- ‘O’ Positive blood group is most common;37 percent in the world, ‘A’ positive next with 33 % Caucasian, 24% African Americans, 27% Asians, and 29 % latinos. AB negative rarest, 1 % and less.
- Indians abroad : 32 Million every year, 2.5 lakh Indians migrate, maximum to USA, 44.6 lakhs current number
- Brown – 70% to 79% eyes are the most common colour among humans. Green, which is the least common eye colour seen in 2 percent. Black is not an eye colour !!!
