Response to ‘Looking Good’ post
Dear Readers,
Overwhelmed by the response to this article.
Thank you very much for your active participation in responding and discussing on my last post ‘ Looking Good… why it is important’.
- Many among you felt as I have mentioned in the blog, that this would be seen as not important …that it is more important to have a better character than looking good. My point was not discounting character building…this post was simply about appearance of persons that catches the eye first in every single encounter. The importance of presenting oneself well was emphasized, that is not to set aside the value of a good character
- Character and good looks are not an either – or phenomena…they often go hand in hand… in fact, well presented appearance adds to character! When we take care of ourselves, present good looking, clean persona to others, we are respecting them, not necessarily putting them down!
- The blog does talk about various opinions on looking good…if missed, do go back and read again
- Not all well dressed, good looking people are narcissistic or vain, they simply might be following a social etiquette rule of not upsetting the onlookers and simply feeling good about themselves or even more to the point, following formal official dress code!
- There was an opinion on self perceptions not being built on good appearance…innumerable researches point out that a pleasant physical appearance adds tremendous value to self perception, self confidence and has positive effects on social interactions and leadership roles. Browsing Social Psychology research here is helpful
- First impressions are critically important in social situations…our character does not reflect on our persona right at the outset. People are notorious for jumping to conclusions about us, and a well presented person only aids in getting the right kind of attention
- It is our social responsibility to be presented as well as possible since we cannot upset others with our careless, inappropriate, unclean appearances
- Hope I have addressed the issues that were discussed on this blog article. Thank you all once again
Appearance catching eye first-Agree
Character n good looks going hand in hand – less likely often.
Well presented appearance adds to character – NO
Non good looking people also can feel good about themselves
Good looks/appearance adding values to self perception, self confidence n leadership roles – again totally do not agree.
Emphasis should have been laid on clean appearance n presenting oneself well instead of using a word ‘good looking’ in the narrative.
