Illusions
Don’t we all live in illusions?
- We think we must be the most important persons in the world for our family
- We think that others must always realize how important we are
- We think we are right all the time
- We think we must be allowed to say what we think about anything in the world
- We think our needs are critically more important than those of others
- We think we need not listen to others
- We think the system is always unfair to us
- We think our sacrifices are the greatest
- We think the other is always being selfish
- We think we are not loved sufficiently
- We think we need not take advice
- We think we understand ourselves
- We think others must love us as we are
- We think others are insensitive to our feelings
- We think we need not change, others must
- We think we deserve the most beautiful, accomplished and successful person as our mate
- We think our mate must be independent as well as docile and obedient at the same time
- We think we are indispensable to our families, colleagues and employers
- We think we need not explain our bad behaviour to others
- We think our birthdays and wedding anniversaries are important and others must remember them
- We think we can get away with murder
- We think we are immune to criticism
- We think we perfectly understand others
- We think our mistakes have always reasons outside of ourselves
- We think we need repeat chances in life
- We think we have a right to dependency on others
- We thinks others have a duty to do things for us
- We think we have a right to loyalty
- We think we need to be told the truth always
- We think we have a right to win the case, whatever we might have done
- We think we need to be acknowledged every time, all the time
- We think others need to be grateful to us life long
- We think others have a duty towards us; we may or may not feel the same towards others
- We think we have property rights over our family members ; cannot see them as independent humans
- We think when we are attracted to someone, that one must be attracted to us
- We think our jokes are funny but others jokes are insults
- We think we can get away without an apology; but others must apologize to us
- We think the world is a nasty place; but we don’t want to leave it
- We think all the massive changes needed to set the world right must be taken up by others, but not by us
- We think that if we believe in super natural forces, they will take care of us
- We think doing rituals will absolve us of all negative impacts of the universe
- We think if we ignore it, the problem will go away or will solve itself
- We think our children must do what we expect of them
- We think we will go to heaven and not to hell after death!
- We think our children are duty bound to fulfil our unfulfilled desires
- We think we own our spouse and children
- We think we should not be paying taxes, but must get all the facilities from the government
- We think we deserve the pay at the end of the month, even though we have simply wiled away the time all through
- We think delegating work to others is our birth right
- We think we deserve to be forgiven, but we never would forgive others
So…having illusions is a psychological disorder that only few among us suffer from? Does not seem to be so. We all live in illusions and they can wreck havoc with our emotions and the lives of others living with us.
The stark reality is
- Nobody is obligated to us
- We are one among millions of others
- Making a place for ourselves needs hard work
- There are no entitlements in this world
- Everything works only in reciprocation and cooperation
- We fail more often than we succeed
- Peace comes only after long years of strife
It is therefore important to see the reality out there; no escape for us humans.
Very true mam. But as children, these illusions help us to feel important and loved but as we grow we need to understand the reality otherwise its for sure that we shall end up in distress and keep brooding over all little things in life.
This checklist really helps to get out of the illusion and look at the reality….
True reflections. It is like “we always become Judge for others’ mistakes and Lawyers for our own mistakes!!” Also “if we see in ourselves what others see in us, we will not believe”!!
The long observation and experience in life has given a beautiful article! All the illusions people have are observed by many of us some time in life but find it difficult to come out of them.It would be great if people realise and live in reality-Good for them and others too!! Keep writing!!

Yes true.
Without understanding reality / practicle aspects of life if one stays in illusions they will certainly suffer in some aspect or other and can not live in peace.
Some are illusions that seek the company of a person vain and/or stupid. Many are just delusions of someone not accepting reality. All are qualities of an imperfect but fascinating human being.
